Wal­lace wel­comes re­sult

THURINGOWA MP Craig Wal­lace has wel­comed the Townsville City Coun­cil’s de­ci­sion to al­low ratepay­ers to re­turn to an al­lo­ca­tion-based pric­ing sys­tem.

Queens­land Premier Anna Bligh re­cently lodged a letter clar­i­fy­ing the ju­ris­dic­tion over the con­tro­ver­sial plan, stat­ing it was within the coun­cil’s bound­aries to de­ter­mine its own wa­ter prices.

‘‘ I would like to per­son­ally con­grat­u­late the thou­sands of peo­ple who have taken this fight for­ward and to the coun­cil for fi­nally al­low­ing com­mon sense to pre­vail,’’ he said.

‘‘ The premier’s the straw that camel’s back.

‘‘ I think this is a red-letter day for Townsville and a won­der­ful vic­tory.’’
