Decision not final: Gartrell

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

TOWNSVILLE City Councillor Ray Gartrell has warned the city’s water system decision is facing one last obstacle.

Mr Gartrell said yesterday’s decision was still subject to approval from the Federal Government.

‘‘ This is a positive step to be planning our next budget around residents having a choice between a two-part tariff system and the old fixed-price allocation, but the Federal Government still needs to confirm this meets their requirements,’’ he said.

‘‘ I recently called for our bureaucrats to go to Canberra to address the issue face-to-face and it was pleasing to see a resolution today where we will be meeting with the federal minister to put our case.

‘‘ Our climatic conditions and social impacts are different to other areas and need to be considered.’’
