On Sunday a Bamford Lane resident found a clandestine lab in a backpack that had been dumped in his yard, which he handed into Kirwan police.
Sen-Sgt Phelps said the backpack’s alleged owner had heard police were going to execute a search warrant on his home, so he stashed it on a neighbour’s property.
A 27-year-old man was later charged with production of methylamphetamines and possession of equipment used for production.
Sen-Sgt Phelps said all three were portable labs, indicating drug manufacture was rife and a major concern in North Queensland.
‘‘ The impact on the local market is not huge, but what it does highlight is how many of these things are out and about,’’ he said.
‘‘ We have never seen three
