On Sun­day a Bam­ford Lane res­i­dent found a clan­des­tine lab in a back­pack that had been dumped in his yard, which he handed into Kir­wan po­lice.

Sen-Sgt Phelps said the back­pack’s al­leged owner had heard po­lice were go­ing to ex­e­cute a search war­rant on his home, so he stashed it on a neigh­bour’s prop­erty.

A 27-year-old man was later charged with pro­duc­tion of methy­lam­phetamines and pos­ses­sion of equip­ment used for pro­duc­tion.

Sen-Sgt Phelps said all three were por­ta­ble labs, in­di­cat­ing drug man­u­fac­ture was rife and a ma­jor concern in North Queens­land.

‘‘ The im­pact on the lo­cal mar­ket is not huge, but what it does high­light is how many of these things are out and about,’’ he said.
