Call for women quotas
AUSTRALIA has been told to follow the lead of other western countries that mandate quotas for women on company boards.
On International Women’s Day, Governor-General Quentin Bryce, pictured, has called for female quotas to ensure more women are included on boards, with only 11 per cent represented on ASX200 listed companies.
Dr Sara Charlesworth from RMIT University says Australia has a long way to reach the boardroom goals achieved by their counterparts in the UK, United States, New Zealand and Scandinavia.
‘‘ We’re falling behind those countries we’d assume had similar values and culture,’’ she said.
