Heartfelt tribute to hockey

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

SLICE OF HISTORY: Author Gary McKay and Mick Heart with the new book A DECISION to archive the history of Townsville Brothers hockey was more than a passion for Mick Heart, it was a tribute.

Mr Heart launched The Family of Hockey in front of 120 guests at The Pier Restaurant on Saturday afternoon.

It has a detailed history of the club’s 55 years in the city, including numerous archival photographs.

But as passionate as he is about Brothers hockey, Mr Heart said it was also a way to honour the memory of father Mick.

‘‘ I have had it published in memory of my father, who died three years ago and was a life member and patron of the club for about 43 years,’’ said Mr Heart, who commissioned the book written by Gary McKay.

‘‘ There are a lot of memorial trophies and things like that, but I just wanted something a bit more endearing.’’

Mr Heart said much of the research came courtesy of library records from the Townsville Daily Bulletin.

‘‘ It really is a good book, ’’ Mr Heart said.

The Family of Hockey retails for $ 45.
