Carbon tax tipped to hit North hard
H I N C H I N B R O O K M P Andrew Cripps has accused Premier Anna Bligh of not understanding the impact of a c a r b o n t a x o n Nor t h Queensland.
Mr Cr i p p s s a i d Nor t h Queenslanders would pay higher prices for electricity, fuel and food when the federal government’s carbon tax was introduced from July next year.
Mr Cripps asked Ms Bligh in question time yesterday what she was doing to defend Nor t h Quee n s l a n d f r o m Labor’s carbon tax.
‘‘ North Queensland families’ budgets are already under strain from rising costs caused by the economic incompetence of this long-term Bligh Labor government,’’ Mr Cripps said.
‘‘ If Anna Bligh was listening during her visits to North Queensland she would know that people place ( enormous) reliance on electricity for such things as airconditioning, refrigeration.
‘‘ A carbon tax will drive up the price of essential goods and services and have an enormous impact on the cost of living in North Queensland.’’
