Ho­tel helps Yasi re­cov­ery

FOR 500 pub-go­ers it was more than just liq­uid gold t h a t wa s r a i s e d a t t h e Her­bert Ho­tel af­ter Cy­clone Yasi re­cently.

The gen­er­ous group put to­gether an im­pres­sive $ 4000 to help those af­fected most by the disas­ter.

Her­bert Ho­tel pub­li­can Paul Ven­tu­rato said t he fundrais­ing night had been the per­fect way to wind down af­ter a hec­tic week of clean­ing, as well as col­lect­ing money for those who needed it most.

‘‘ We had a lot of do­na­tions . . . it was re­ally well sup­ported,’’ he said.

‘‘ We auc­tioned off prizes and also got peo­ple to give a gold coin do­na­tion.

‘‘ The money went to the lo­cal Ro­tary so that it would go straight to those who needed it rather than down south.’’

The Re­clin­ing Rock­ers also gave their time, and mu­sic, to the wor­thy cause.
