THE State Government will give $ 175,000 to Racing Queensland to resurrect thoroughbred and greyhound facilities in Townsville that were damaged by Cyclone Yasi. The funding is part of $ 2.35 million Regional Economies Minister Tim Mulherin yesterday announced for the racing body, which will also go to Rockhampton, Emerald, Cairns, Warwick, Albion Park and Ipswich. Mr Mulherin said the funding would assist by covering the shortfall from insurers for damaged clubs so that racing could get back to normal as soon as possible. ‘‘ Getting these flood repairs completed at the 30 damaged race tracks across Queensland will help in the community recovery process,’’ he said. ‘‘ This funding will ensure race tracks and meetings are back up and running and local communities can enjoy a day out at the races.’’
