Ja­pan is­sues tsunami alert

JA­PAN is­sued a tsunami warn­ing yes­ter­day af­ter a 7.2-mag­ni­tude quake struck 160 kilo­me­tres east off the main Hon­shu is­land, sway­ing build­ings in the cap­i­tal Tokyo. There were no im­me­di­ate re­ports of ca­su­al­ties or prop­erty dam­age. The tremor struck 10km be­low the sea floor, said the Ja­pan Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Agency, which is­sued a tsunami warn­ing for Hon­shu’s Pa­cific coast, ad­vis­ing of waves which could push far in­land. A spokesman from the US Ge­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey said the epi­cen­tre of the quake was es­ti­mated to be 430km north­east of Tokyo.
