Mate Escape

Townsville Bulletin - - Savvy -

Our friends from Nitro Circus are in Albury this weekend, and we think it’s a pretty good place to grab some mates together and head for a holiday. Albury is located on the New South Wales side of the Murray River. Its twin city, Wodonga, is located on the Victorian side. Albury is very conveniently positioned around halfway between Sydney ( 588kms north) and Melbourne ( 300kms south). Singer/ songwriter Lisa Mitchell lived in Albury, and fashion designer Lisa Ho was born there. The town may be small, but it has plenty to do and some pretty cool local attractions. There is a community wood fired oven, which is fired up every second Sunday for free community use. Residents and visitors are invited to head down to the park on fire days with their dough or meat and veg ( they do allow you to cook a roast!) ready for the oven. There is even an Oven Coordinator on-hand to assist with using the oven! Entertainment ranges from Nitro Circus Live to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Accommodation in Albury ranges from budget-conscious cabins to luxury spa suites at the Chifley. The best way to get to Albury is via car or bus from Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne, and if you wait til winter, you might want to do a spot of shopping for some winter woolies before you leave the capital!
