MP demands inquiry into FFA decision to axe Fury

Townsville Bulletin - - Inside Today - Antony Stewart

THURINGOWA MP Craig Wallace has demanded an inquiry into Football Federa t i o n A u s t r a l i a ’ s ‘ ‘ c o n - temptuous’’ dealings and ultimate decision to axe the North Queensland Fury from the A-League.

Speaking in State Parliament, Mr Wallace launched an extraordinary attack on football’s governing body for the country.

‘‘ We were treated with contempt,’’ the Main Roads Minister told the Townsville Bulletin after he addressed the house.

‘‘ I’ve called for an inquiry because, quite frankly, it’s ludicrous that this organisation has kicked out the Fury and at the same time could only manage one vote in its ( FIFA) World Cup bid.

‘‘ There’s obviously something wrong with the FFA.’’

Mr Wallace said the address was well received by the house, which also included Mundingburra MP L i n d y N e l s o n - C a r r a n d T o w n s v i l l e M P M a n d y Johnstone.

‘‘ Maybe the national government needs to look at their ( FFA’s) operations,’’ he said. ‘‘ Any sporting ( organisat i on) t hat r epresents a nation should behave in a professional manner and deserves to have the oversight of the Federal Government on how they operate.’’
