believes that she and Jason have been friends for some time and have recently become a couple. Making up the trio is Jason’s ‘‘ best friend’’ and loveable class clown Leo.

After the introduction of characters the action starts and rarely eases up. Jason, Piper and Leo face off against storm spirits before being whisked away to Camp HalfBlood ( a safe place for children of the Greek gods). But the trio barely has time to settle into their new home before learning they have been chosen to embark on a terrifying quest to prevent the return of an ancient enemy.

Riordan has once again created a first-class, well-written young adult novel that will be enjoyed by all ages.
