Croc victim facing surgery

Townsville Bulletin - - National Snapshot -

A YOUNG fisherman who miraculously survived a monster crocodile attack will undergo multiple operations for fractures and deep puncture wounds. A four-metre saltwater crocodile attacked Todd Bairstow, 28, while he fished on a creek bank at Weipa on Cape York Peninsula on Wednesday. His injuries are horrific, but not lifethreatening, and include dislocated joints, multiple puncture wounds and a fractured finger. He underwent a second round of surgery yesterday at the Cairns Base Hospital. The four-hour surgery involved washing out infected wounds, including a large one on his left knee, a hospital spokeswoman said. She said his injuries were extensive and he would require multiple rounds of surgery. ‘‘ It was very intensive to clean those wounds,’’ she said. ‘‘ You can imagine what a crocodile bite would be like.’’
