Meal wins woman $ 218,000

Townsville Bulletin - - Inside Today - Nathan Paull

A CASUAL dinner turned into a $ 218,000 windfall for one Townsville hospitality worker.

The 21-year-old woman, who requested anonymity, hit the Keno jackpot at the Bohle Barn last Thursday.

‘‘ It’s a big deal but we didn’t run around screaming,’’ she said.

‘‘ I didn’t scream but I was so excited that I couldn’t eat my meal afterwards.’’

The lucky woman initially won $ 18 and then reinvested the money on 15 more games.

On the 11th turn, she saw nine of her numbers come up. ‘‘ I saw the numbers come up, but we still didn’t believe it, so we went and had the ticket scanned,’’ she said.

Bohle Barn employee Sheralee Grant, who sold the winning Keno ticket, said although the winner had been unable to finish her meal, she returned the following night to celebrate with her family.

Bohle Barn Manager Tony McCoy said it was fantastic a regular patron won the jackpot – the biggest win at the hotel.

‘‘ It’s a sensational win,’’ he said.
