Snif­fer dogs set for tsunami res­cue

TWO Queens­land dog han­dlers fresh from res­cue ef­forts in Christchurch are brac­ing them­selves for even worse scenes of de­struc­tion in Ja­pan.

Only a week af­ter re­turn­ing from 11 days of search­ing the rub­ble of q uake-hi t Chris t c hurch, Barry Low­day and Chris Pur­cill and their snif­fer dogs will be do­ing it all again.

Mr Low­day and Mr Pur­cill are good mates and vol­un­teer searc­hand-res­cue dog han­dlers from Ip­swich. They are among only a few Aus­tralian dog han­dlers to have worked over­seas and were sent to search for peo­ple af­ter a mud­slide in Pa­pua New Guinea in 2008.
