Short straw for water veterans

Townsville Bulletin - - Voice Of The North -

I NOTICE that our water veterans are being given the short straw again.

This time, pensioners are not keeping up with the cost of living expenses. On the reverse side, illegal immigrants are given nice fat welfare cheques as soon as they arrive, plus a hardship allowance.

This is not an error committed by well meaning idiots. It is a power tactic by politicians who obviously believe that the hard working taxpayer is nothing more than a means to provide money for their wasteful policies. Whether people want to hear it or not this scenario manifests itself when a Labor government is in charge. It is the re-incarnation of an arrogant type of aristocracy.

The tragic part of all this is that today’s political leaders are the grandchildren of hard workers who fought for the right to be treated with fairness and dignity, a right which they now deny the majority of working Australians. How soon we forget. R. GLEDHILL, Townsville.
