Tay­lor blitz de­mol­ishes Cana­di­ans

NEW Zealand’s in-form Ross Tay­lor blitzed Canada last night, pick­ing up where he left off against Pak­istan to help fire the Black Caps to a mas­sive win over one of the Worl d Cup mi n n o ws i n Mum­bai.

The stand-in skip­per came t o t h e c r e a s e a t t h e Wankhede Sta­dium in the 30th over with his side on 149 for two af­ter a steady start against win­less Canada, and in­jected ur­gency into the in­nings.

In one dev­as­tat­ing over Tay­lor, who smashed 131 in 124 balls against Pak­istan, took 28 off Harvir Baid­wan, smash­ing four sixes and a four.

He was caught by Jimmy Han­sra off the bowl­ing of Balaji Rao for 74 off just 44 balls, in­clud­ing five sixes and six fours.

Bren­don McCullum was the main­stay of the in­nings, scor­ing 101 in 109 balls as New Zealand amassed a daunt­ing to­tal of 6-358.

McCullum put on 53 with o p e n i n g p a r t n e r Mart i n Gup­till ( 17) and 96 with Jesse Ry­der ( 38) for the sec­ond wicket but per­ished in the first over of the bat­ting powerplay, hol­ing out to Ru­vindu Gu­nasek­era at ex­tra cover.

Canada were never in the hunt, fin­ish­ing on 9-261, al­most 100 in ar­rears, de­spite strong in­nings of 84 from Ashish Ba­gai and 70 not out from Jimmy Han­sra.
