Moomba madness is flying high again
PARTY PEOPLE: The weather smiled and 70,000 Melburnians lining Swanston St beamed. After lacklustre years and ill-fated revamps, the Moomba parade was very much back in town yesterday afternoon. Children crowded to see 1500 performers set the city buzzing with everything from chicken-headed dancers to Christmas elves. Molly Meldrum donned tights, a skirt and make up to come as Egypt’s golden boy, Tutankhamun. But the Moomba royals, Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse and TV it-girl Ruby Rose, drew the biggest cheers.
