Sur­viv­ing time in jail for tax

RICHARD Hatch, win­ner of the first US sea­son of Sur­vivor in 2000, sur­ren­dered Mon­day to US Mar­shals in Prov­i­dence, R. I., to be­gin a nine-month sen­tence for fail­ing to pay taxes on his $ 1 mil­lion prize from the show. Hatch, 49, sur­ren­dered at 12.30pm af­ter a re­quest for more time to or­gan­ise his busi­ness af­fairs was de­nied. Hatch had spent three-and-a-half years in prison for be­ing found guilty of tax eva­sion in 2006.
