Cardwell desperate to re- energise batteries

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

PRINCE William would be well advised to pack his gumboots for Saturday’s visit to Cardwell. Newsagent Richard Doran measured 70mm of rain between 6am and 10am yesterday. The rain was relentless throughout the afternoon and barely paused for breath all day. Cardwell is six weeks out from the February 2-3 cyclone, but with the houses still ‘‘ tarped’’ and the wrecked ones with the shattered walls and missing roofs still lying there like rotting carcasses in a paddock waiting for the crows and hawks to pick bare, the town, for all intents and purposes, might have only been through a cyclone just a few days ago.

The drenching rain and the greyness of the sky does nothing to suppress an all-pervading atmosphere of lethargy.

Cardwell needs some sun to re-energise its batteries.
