A day for wearin’ the green

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

FLYNN’S Irish Bar owner Steve Flynn is expecting more than just Irish eyes to be smiling as St Patrick’s Day celebrations kick off across Townsville today.

The well-known publican is expecting the city to be awash with a sea of green as locals look to celebrate all things Irish.

Mr Flynn said revellers were praying for sunshine.

‘‘ We seem to get pretty consistent numbers year so I can’t see changing,’’ he said.

‘‘ Everyone is always in a good mood so it is one of the best days of the year.’’

The celebrations are particularly poignant for Mr Flynn as he looks to remember his late father, Patrick, who was born on the iconic day.

‘‘ It certainly was a bigger occasion when he was still each that around, but now it’s a time to have a drink to remember him,’’ he said.

The first 200 revellers through the door will go into the draw for a Guinness fridge stocked with supplies.

Irish delicacies such as Guinness pie will be served up to help settle the pints of the traditional dark ale.

Mr Flynn encouraged locals to get involved.
