Gillard coy on Greens role
PRIME Minister Julia Gillard has refused to explicitly say that the Australian Greens forced her to introduce a carbon tax – instead insisting the decision came out of the multi-party climate change committee. Ms Gillard’s refusal to acknowledge the minor party’s role led the coalition to claim she was being secretive and deceptive. Opposition climate action spokesman Greg Hunt said the Prime Minister’s stonewalling just was not on. ‘‘ It’s time for Ms Gillard to let Australians into the secret,’’ Mr Hunt said in a statement yesterday.
