Merlin plan to expand
THE UK private equity group behind the purchase of Sydney Attractions Group plans to list on the London Stock Exchange and expand its portfolio in Australia and Asia. Merlin Entertainment Group’s $ 115 million purchase of Village Roadshow Ltd’s Sydney Attractions subsidiary was completed at the start of this month, sealing the European group’s entry into the Australian market. Merlin boss Nick Varney said the group was now focused on expanding its Sea Life aquarium brand, bringing Madam Tussauds to Sydney and acquiring ‘‘ clusters’’ of attractions in proximity. ‘‘ We’re saying the area clearly where it’s all happening is the AsiaPacific region,’’ he said.
