Green decks help batsmen

Townsville Bulletin - - Sport -

A PREVALENCE of bowlerfriendly wickets this Sheffield Shield season will help develop tougher batsmen, Tasmanian captain George Bailey says. Tasmania go into the Shield final against NSW starting today with a pace attack that has feasted on green pitches around the country. Bailey said the preparation of result wickets – often at the behest of the home side – would ultimately benefit the country’s emerging batsmen, rather than bowlers. ‘‘ There’s no repercussions if a game lasts two or three days, so I think teams request for a result wicket,’’ he said. ‘‘ I still think that if there’s a little bit in the wicket, you need a good temperament and a good technique.’’
