Townsville Bulletin - - Inside Today -

SIGHTSEERS are causing more damage to the isolated town of Mission Beach, south of Innisfail, which has already been devastated by Cyclone Yasi and flooding. Mission Beach police officerin-charge Sergeant Dan Gallagher urged residents to avoid driving around suburban streets unless absolutely necessary.

‘‘ We are receiving a large number of complaints from local residents regarding people driving up and down their streets,’’ he said.

‘‘ The wash from these cars is causing damage to yards and houses that are already inundated with water.

‘‘ There is substantial flooding on a large number of roads throughout Mission Beach and drivers should avoid the area if possible.

‘‘ With heavy rain expected it is likely that Mission Beach will continue to experience flooding.’’
