Townsville Bulletin - - Inside Today -

THE eastern seaboard should move clocks forward by half an hour as part of a permanent yearround daylight saving p r o p o s a l , a g r o up o f Queensland campaigners says.

Almost 500 people have signed a petition, presented to Queensland parliament, calling for a streamlining of Australian time zones.

‘‘ Australia has three time zones in winter and five time zones in summer,’’ the petition said.

‘‘ This adversely affects business within Australia and with our trading partners in southeast Asia.’’ Premier Anna Bligh said she did not believe it was appropriate to disregard the views of regional Queenslanders on daylight saving.
