Runner for four years
How long have you been running? I began four years ago with the North Star athletics club, over 400m and 800m, with my family. I have tried longer distances with Townsville Road Runners in the past couple of years. What keeps you going? The friendly atmosphere at track meetings and fun runs. It’s very welcoming. I like the energy I get at the end of a race. How far do you run? The furthest distance is 10km. Maybe a total of 20 to 30km, three or four days a week. Any tips? Run when it’s cool and warm up before you race. I don’t like competing after eating because I get stitches. Injuries? Nothing major since I have started stretching before races. I used to get cramps. Favourite fuel? I like to eat at the end of a race – bananas, oranges or biscuits. Favourite tracks? Along Ross River between Aplin’s Weir and Black Weir. I am from Kenya and running along the river with all the big green trees reminds me of home.
