22 charged at Yarrabah
POLICE have charged 22 people over a weekend of alcohol-fuelled violence in an Aboriginal community. Police say bricks, bottles and eggs were hurled at patrol cars in a series of violent incidents at Yarrabah, near Cairns. The 22 are facing charges including affray, possession of alcohol in a restricted area, obstructing police and public nuisance. Police said projectiles were lobbed at two patrol cars when officers responded to disturbances involving large crowds early on Saturday with further violence on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
