22 charged at Yarrabah

PO­LICE have charged 22 peo­ple over a week­end of al­co­hol-fu­elled vi­o­lence in an Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­nity. Po­lice say bricks, bot­tles and eggs were hurled at pa­trol cars in a se­ries of vi­o­lent in­ci­dents at Yarrabah, near Cairns. The 22 are fac­ing charges in­clud­ing af­fray, pos­ses­sion of al­co­hol in a re­stricted area, ob­struct­ing po­lice and pub­lic nui­sance. Po­lice said pro­jec­tiles were lobbed at two pa­trol cars when of­fi­cers re­sponded to dis­tur­bances in­volv­ing large crowds early on Satur­day with fur­ther vi­o­lence on Satur­day night and Sun­day morn­ing.
