Stoner crows: Aussie off to winning start
AUSTRALIA’S Casey Stoner swept to victory in yesterday’s MotoGP season-opener in Qatar. The 2007 world champion gave Honda their first opening-round victory in eight years after he had dominated practice and qualifying.
The Australian cruised to the line 3.440 seconds ahead of Yamaha’s reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo, with Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa third.
Multiple world champion Valentino Rossi started his Ducati career with seventh place as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery last November.
France’s Randy de Puniet crashed his Ducati on the first lap and reigning Moto2 champion Toni Elias of Spain, who has stepped up to MotoGP, crashed out.
