Newman ‘ jumping ship’

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

BRISBANE Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has been accused of jumping ship and leaving the city to deal with the financial ruin he created.

Labor’s lord mayor candidate Ray Smith said Mr Newman’s priority was clearly his political career, not fixing the problems he’d created for the state capital.

‘‘ It’s a betrayal for Campbell Newman to seek out greener pastures after he’s left this city’s finances in such a mess,’’ he said.

Mr Smith said the city of Brisbane had been burdened with a $ 2.2 billion debt, a toll tunnel that has gone broke, another $ 1.7 billion toll tunnel on the way, a botched bike hire scheme and a boardedup City Hall.
