Work­shops help grow­ers with new laws

HOR­TI­CUL­TURE body Grow­com is set to stage its an­nual Work­place Essen­tials work­shops across north­ern Queens­land’s hor­ti­cul­ture re­gions next month.

The work­shops will in­clude pre­sen­ta­tions by Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment outreach of­fi­cers and AustSafe Su­per ex­perts and will out­line grow­ers’ rights and obli­ga­tions un­der the Hor­ti­cul­ture Award 2010 and the tran­si­tional pro­vi­sions.

They will be staged at Tully ( April 4), I nn­is­fail ( April 5), Ma­reeba ( April 7), Townsville ( April 18) Ayr ( April 19) and Bowen ( April 20).

Is­sues to be ad­dressed in­clude mov­ing sole traders and part­ner­ships into the new Fed­eral Fair Work sys­tem; man­ag­ing staff to bring out the best in them, tips for in­duc­tion, per­for­mance man­age­ment, skills de­vel­op­ment and staff re­ten­tion.

Cost of the work­shop ( in­clud­ing a full re­source kit and Em­ployer Guide) i s $ 300 plus GST f or Grow­com mem­bers and $ 500 plus GST for non-mem­bers.
