New role for Gandolfini

Townsville Bulletin - - The Goss -

THE Sopranos actor James Gandolfini will play New Jersey restaurateur and unlikely diplomat Bobby Egan in an upcoming HBO project about Egan’s self-described role as ‘‘ unofficial ambassador’’ to North Korea.

Gandolfini, 49, will star in the film adaptation of Egan’s book Eating With The Enemy: How I Waged Peace With North Korea From My BBQ Shack In Hackensack. Egan, who owns a barbecue joint in Hackensack, New Jersey, emerged as a controversial figure when he forged a friendship with North Korean diplomats in the early 1990s and travelled to the communist country on multiple occasions.
