DE­SPITE claims by Fiat that it’s not let­ting go of Alfa Romeo, Volk­swa­gen is still ap­ply­ing the pres­sure. mag­a­zine re­ports Alfa could get a new line of four­cylin­der boxer en­gines that Porsche is cur­rently de­vel­op­ing for use in its own sports cars. Also in­cluded in the plan is use of the ad­di­tional pro­duc­tion ca­pac­ity at Seat. pure EVs and plug-in hy­brids alone could ac­count for nearly 10 per cent of new ve­hi­cle sales by 2020 glob­ally, cre­at­ing a value chain worth about $ 300b and more than a mil­lion new jobs along the way. JA­PANESE car­mak­ers are promis­ing no ma­jor dis­rup­tion in Aus­tralia de­spite the tur­moil in the coun­try. Nor­mal pro­duc­tion is re­sum­ing at most com­pa­nies fol­low­ing a shut­down to as­sess dam­age and al­low staff to set­tle any fam­ily prob­lems.
