Avalon eyed for F1 track

Townsville Bulletin - - Sport -

GRAND Prix boss Ron Walker says Avalon on the outskirts of Melbourne will now be the focus for a permanent Formula One track in a bid to retain the race after 2015. Walker said he would speak to the Victorian Government after this weekend’s Australian race to investigate the possibility of staging the event on a dedicated circuit near Avalon airport. Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone expressed enthusiasm for staging the round on a purpose-built track to avoid the constant criticism of its cost to the state taxpayer.
