A COCK­PIT fire that forced a Qantas in­ter­na­tional flight to make an un­sched­uled land­ing was un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion yes­ter­day. The Air­bus A330 fly­ing from the Philip­pines to Syd­ney, had to land at the near­est air­port in Cairns – about 2431km north of Syd­ney – af­ter smoke and small flames erupted near the air­craft’s left wind­screen. The fire, which broke out about 3: 35pm lo­cal time , was caused by an elec­tri­cal fault, Qantas said. Pi­lots dealt with the fire be­fore di­vert­ing the flight.
