400 rescued

Townsville Bulletin - - National Snapshot -

THE last of the 400 tired and wet campers who were trapped in bushland on flood-hit Wilsons Promontory have been airlifted to safety after two days of drama. Two hundred campers, many of them schoolchildren, were forced to camp a second night in the national park after torrential rain cut an access road and left them stranded. Darby Bridge leading into the park in Victoria’s east was washed away in Tuesday night’s downpour. Helicopters carried out the rescues.
