Queensland politics heats up
THE political climate in Queensland is really starting to heat up in the wake of Campbell Newman’s ascension to the LNP leadership and a Newspoll released yesterday which shows a remarkable turnaround in popularity for Labor premier Anna Bligh. The Newspoll, conducted by The Australian, showed Ms Bligh would have won an election if it had been held last weekend, albeit with the LNP being led by the vanquished former leader JohnPaul Langbroek. Cr Newman will be a much tougher nut to crack but it is now obvious that Labor has staged a Lazarus-style comeback never before seen in Australian politics. An election is now likely as early as May, and what a battle it is likely to be.
