Crocs boss: centre old and tired

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

TOWNSVILLE Crocodiles boss Ian Smythe had no doubt the current entertainment and convention centre facilities deserved to be a multi-purpose centre.

‘‘ Really if you go back through history it was built for sport and they added convention to the name,’’ he said.

‘‘ To continue to grow and become a more sophisticated community, we need this to happen.’’

Mr Smythe compared the current facilities to an old-style overhead projector while a new entertainment and convention centre would be LCD technology.

‘‘ The community demands it and we’re missing out on the convention market,’’ he said. ‘‘ The State Government needs to set up that infrastructure.’’

He said the Government should look long and hard to support the proposal.

‘‘ It’s just become old and tired and there hasn’t been any redevelopment or refurbishing on the inside,’’ he said.

‘‘ We’ve just made the most of what we’ve got.’’
