Johnstone: money’s tight

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

MEMBER for Townsville Mandy Johnstone said she, too, wanted to know what her electorate thought of paying for a new entertainment and convention centre.

‘‘ We have been consistent with looking at the proposal council has put forward . . . but there are a number of things to be addressed before we agree to commit this money,’’ she said.

She said there were still unanswered questions about value for money and if it was better spent on roads or schools.

‘‘ I don’t think there’s a dispute, the old one needs work done on it because it was built in a different era.

‘‘ We’re in a new era with natural disasters and the budget will be extremely tight. We have to be careful we go forward for our city from a state perspective.’’
