Airlie adventure for happy duo
WINNERS: Carol and Errol Johnson have won a trip away A RETIRED Vincent couple will enjoy the spectacular scenery of Airlie Beach after winning the major prize in the NQ Escapes competition.
Carol Johnson and her husband Errol won a trip to Peninsula Airlie Beach valued at $ 499 in the competition, which was a joint initiative of the Townsville Bulletin, Townsville Enterprise and Whitsundays Tourism.
Carol was the major winner but all up, there are 40 winners who each received a holiday.
The competition aimed to inject much-needed funds into the local tourism industry in the wake of Cyclone Yasi and to give readers the chance to escape after the stress of the past few months.
Ms Johnson said she had never won a holiday before.
‘‘ I thought they were pulling my leg when they called me,’’ the 61-year-old said. ‘‘ I’m speechless. ‘‘ I would have been happy with just a night at Jupiters but I have never been to Airlie Beach.’’
She said she hadn’t decided when she would take her adventure but as both she and her husband were retired there was plenty of time.
