Townsville Bulletin - - News -

THE New Zealand Labour party’s chief whip, Darren Hughes, has resigned from parliament amid allegations of a sexual incident involving an 18-year-old male student.

Labour leader Phil Goff announced the resignation yesterday afternoon at a hastily called press conference at his Auckland electoral office.

Hughes was ‘‘ adamant’’ he had committed offence, Goff said.
