A PLAQUE honouring Australian soldiers killed in an explosion during World War I will be unveiled in the French town of Bapaume today.

Retreating German forces left a bomb in Bapaume’s town hall in northern France, and 25 people were killed when it exploded on March 25, 1917. Among the dead were 19 Australian soldiers. Veterans Affairs Minister Warren Snowdon said the plaque was a tribute to those who died.
