The book cov­ers Townsville, Mount Isa, Ayr, Char­ters Tow­ers, Bowen, Ingh a m a n d s u r r o u n d i n g towns.

The Mund­ing­burra State School teacher said he was shocked to be cho­sen.

Each year the Yel­low and White Pages recog­nises the con­tri­bu­tions of lo­cal res­i­dents by fea­tur­ing them on the cover of its books.

White Pages mar­ket­ing man­ager Rachel Peile said Erick’s se­lec­tion recog­nised his com­mit­ment to en­cour­ag­ing his stu­dents to learn about is­sues fac­ing their lo­cal com­mu­nity.

‘‘ In 2000, Erick de­vel­oped a pro­gram where stu­dents from Mund­ing­burra State School were given the op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore the im­por­tance of sus­tain­abil­ity and com­mu­nity is­sues.

‘‘ Erick vol­un­teers many hours, out­side of school times, to as­sist stu­dents, while they learn about cur­rent af­fairs and is­sues fac­ing their com­mu­nity,’’ she said.
