Fly Away Home

By Jennifer Weiner Simon & Schuster, $ 32.99 FANS of Jennifer Weiner’s bestselling novels will no doubt settle in for a great read with a box of tissues at the ready, but although they’re not necessarily required for this story of a mother a nd t wo daughters whose lives derail simul-taneously, Weiner knows how to weave a compelling tale. When US Senator Richard Woodruff is caught in an embarrassing sex s candal, his s hattered wife Sylvie heads to the old family home by the beach. She is soon joined by her seemingly happily married daughter Diana, and Lizzie, a recovering addict ( the cover art strangely depicts her as either severely height - challenged, or a teen). Both are facing a major crisis. Here, the three women confront their demons, and gradually break down the facades they have spent years creating for themselves. Human frailties are Weiner’s trademark, vulnerability is a specialty, and a movie adaptation – inevitable.
