Two quakes hits NZ in one day
A SHALLOW magnitude 4.1 quake has shaken Aoraki Mt Cook in New Zealand’s south island yesterday shortly before midday.
GNS Science said the 5km deep quake struck 20km northeast of Mt Cook at 11.54am local time.
It was felt in Fox Glacier and as far as Christchurch. The quake followed a magnitude 4.5 quake that hit New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty just hours earlier.
The quake struck just after 5am, local time, and was centred 70km north-east of Whakatane at a depth of 130km.
