SES volunteers from Apple Isle pitch in
INTERSTATE angels are helping the battered Cassowary Coast recover from Cyclone Yasi and the strain of continuous heavy rain.
The fifth deployment of Tasmanian SES volunteers arrived this week to give local crews a well-deserved break.
Emergency Management Queensland’s Area Manager, Daryl Camp said the most recent arrival was that of 22 volunteers from the island state.
‘‘ We’ve had SES deployment into the Cassowary Coast since the Friday immediately after Yasi,’’ he said.
‘‘ We’ve had volunteers from all over Australia . . . New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland.
‘‘ This is our ninth week of putting teams in the area to make sure everybody’s looked after.’’
