SES vol­un­teers from Ap­ple Isle pitch in

IN­TER­STATE an­gels are help­ing the bat­tered Cas­sowary Coast re­cover from Cy­clone Yasi and the strain of con­tin­u­ous heavy rain.

The fifth de­ploy­ment of Tas­ma­nian SES vol­un­teers ar­rived this week to give lo­cal crews a well-de­served break.

Emer­gency Man­age­ment Queens­land’s Area Man­ager, Daryl Camp said the most re­cent ar­rival was that of 22 vol­un­teers from the is­land state.

‘‘ We’ve had SES de­ploy­ment into the Cas­sowary Coast since the Fri­day im­me­di­ately af­ter Yasi,’’ he said.

‘‘ We’ve had vol­un­teers from all over Aus­tralia . . . New South Wales, Vic­to­ria, South Aus­tralia, West­ern Aus­tralia and Queens­land.

‘‘ This is our ninth week of putting teams in the area to make sure ev­ery­body’s looked af­ter.’’
