Townsville Bulletin - - About A Baby -

NAPPY EXPERT: Renee Doyle with Abby, 5, Ellie, 3, Trent, 7, Paris, 9, and Kobi, 10 months MOTHER of five Renee Doyle knows a thing or two about nappies.

She reckons she’s changed thousands of nappies in the past nine years.

‘‘ There’s not been one day during the past nine years that I haven’t changed a little one’s bottom,’’ she said.

‘‘ I can practically change a nappy with one hand, that’s how efficient I’ve had to become.

‘‘ I know a good nappy when I see one and I know the importance of comfort and effectiveness. Leaks are a hassle.’’

That’s why Ms Doyle decided to use modern cloth nappies when her oldest child was six months old.

‘‘ I was hooked on modern cloth nappies from the get-go,’’ she said.

‘‘ They rival any disposable nappy for absorbency and are extremely gentle for bub to wear.’’

Ms Doyle – mother to Kobi, 10 months, Ellie, 3, Abby, 5, Trent, 7, and Paris, 9 – was so taken by the modern cloth nappies she started handmaking and selling her own version.

She established AbbyGro nappies nearly eight years ago and sells to local parents at various markets across the city.

Ms Doyle also has a loyal national following via her website www. abbygro. com. au.

She has recently added a new budget, imported, line of modern cloth nappies to her business, the Funky Bots.

‘ ‘ T h e F u n k y Bo t s i s a n affordable line of modern cloth nappies, costing a third of the price of most other handmade modern cloth nappies, including my AbbyGro range,’’ she said.

‘ ‘ I ’ v e f o u n d t h a t m a n y parents that have an interest in using modern cloth nappies sometimes feel the cost of the t r a d i t i o n a l mo d e r n c l o t h nappy was too high.

‘ ‘ Most traditional modern cloth nappies cost on average $ 30 a nappy while the Funky Bots line are $ 12.50 a nappy.

‘‘ The Funky Bots nappy line allows more parents to get a taste of using a modern cloth nappy for a fraction of the price.’’

Ms Doyle said before she s t a r t e d s e l l i n g t h e n e w affordable nappy line, she roadtested the environmentally friendly product on Kobi for six months.

‘‘ I’m rather surprised how wonderful this imported line is. I can’t fault them,’’ she said.

‘ ‘ T h e y h a v e t h e s a m e absorbency and comfort of other, more expensive brands of handmade modern cloth nappies.’’
