EFFORTS to lift the number of tourists visiting the Townsville region in the wake of Cyclone Yasi have been given a boost with a trip to the city by eight media representatives.
The journalists arrived in the city on Saturday for a four-day stay ending yesterday that included visits to South Townsville’s hospitality precinct, Magnetic Island, and the Hidden Valley eco resort on the Paluma Range.
The eight comprise two freelance journalists and representatives of magazines, newspapers and a news service.
They are among 200 overseas and Australian media representatives touring areas of Queensland as part of a $ 10 million tourism industry recovery initiative launched by state and federal governments through Tourism Australia and Tourism Queensland under the banner Nothing Beats Queensland.
