ER­GON En­ergy has al­most com­pleted re­pairs t o i t s North Queens­land net­work which was crip­pled by Cy­clone Yasi.

North­ern Re­gional ser­vices man­ager Geoff Bowes said af­ter restor­ing power to cus­tomers where safe to do so, Er­gon’s f ocus s hif t ed t o se­cur­ing the net­work for pub­lic safety and re­li­a­bil­ity.

‘‘ Ex­ten­sive ground-based and aerial in­spec­tions of the net­work were un­der­taken, par­tic­u­larly be­tween Ing­ham and In­n­is­fail, which bore the brunt of cat­e­gory five de­struc­tive winds,’’ he said.

‘‘ Some 3400 of the 3600 de­fects found from In­n­is­fail south to Townsville have been re­paired by about 150 f i e l d s t a f f w o r k i n g i n an area.

‘ ‘ A n o t h e r 150 net­work r e p a i r j o b s will be un­dert a k e n o n Palm Is­land this week, with min­i­mal im­pact ex­pected on cus­tomers’ power sup­plies.’’

He said the re­main­ing re­pair work in the re­gion was min­i­mal and would be com­pleted by lo­cal staff when a c c e s s a nd weather i mproved.

Mr Bowes said Er­gon En­ergy cus­tomers had been very sup­port­ive dur­ing the re­pairs.
