ERGON Energy has almost completed repairs t o i t s North Queensland network which was crippled by Cyclone Yasi.
Northern Regional services manager Geoff Bowes said after restoring power to customers where safe to do so, Ergon’s f ocus s hif t ed t o securing the network for public safety and reliability.
‘‘ Extensive ground-based and aerial inspections of the network were undertaken, particularly between Ingham and Innisfail, which bore the brunt of category five destructive winds,’’ he said.
‘‘ Some 3400 of the 3600 defects found from Innisfail south to Townsville have been repaired by about 150 f i e l d s t a f f w o r k i n g i n an area.
‘ ‘ A n o t h e r 150 network r e p a i r j o b s will be undert a k e n o n Palm Island this week, with minimal impact expected on customers’ power supplies.’’
He said the remaining repair work in the region was minimal and would be completed by local staff when a c c e s s a nd weather i mproved.
Mr Bowes said Ergon Energy customers had been very supportive during the repairs.
