Mor­combe wit­ness had kid­napped child be­fore

A MAN who once kid­napped and raped a young boy was in­ves­ti­gated over the ab­duc­tion of Daniel Mor­combe.

Per­son of in­ter­est P5 took the stand in the Bris­bane Coroners Court yes­ter­day and pub­licly de­nied any in­volve­ment i n 1 3 - year-ol d Daniel’s dis­ap­pear­ance.

The court was told he be­came a per­son of in­ter­est in the case be­cause he had al­ready shown a ‘‘ ca­pa­bil­ity and in­cli­na­tion’’ to snatch and abuse chil­dren in sim­i­lar cir­cum­stances.

The court was t old P5 served nine years be­hind bars af­ter ab­duct­ing a nineyear-old boy who was rid­ing his bike down a road in Glad­stone in 1995.

‘‘ You are one of the very few peo­ple out of jail at that stage who has shown the ca­pa­bil­ity and t he i ncli­na­tion to snatch a young boy from a pub­lic area in broad day­light . . . that’s an in­cred­i­bly rare crime,’’ Peter Johns, coun­sel as­sist­ing state coro­ner Michael Barnes, said to P5.
